Irradiation

Expose food to ionizing radiation (e.g. fast electrons from a high voltage or (-rays from a cobalt-60 source) 

Radiation destroys enzymes and micro-organisms in food. It delays ripening of fruits and vegetables, inhibits sprouting in bulbs, disinfects grain, cereal products and destroys bacteria in fresh meats. 

Examples: Some fruit (peaches, strawberries), vegetables and potatoes (prevents sprouting)
